An adaptation of the film favourite, The Birdcage, is being presented by the Constantiaberg Theatre Players and The Masque Theatre.
Written by Elaine May, The Birdcage, starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, set the record for the top grossing movie with openly gay characters.
The stage adaptation, directed by the CATA-award winning Barrie Howard, stars Mark Wilkes and David Waugh as Armand and Albert respectively. Armand and Albert have built the perfect life for themselves tending to their gaudy Miami drag club, but their tranquillity is shaken when Armand’s son announces that he is getting married to the daughter of ultra-conservative Senator Keeley… and they’re all getting together for dinner.
Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr and Mrs Family Values in time?
It will take the performance of their lives, but they will do anything and everything to pull the chiffon over Keeley’s eyes.
The show runs from Wednesday November 15 to Saturday December 2. Tickets cost R100. Book at Computicket.
