To my discredit I’d never heard of Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg prior to reading this delightful book and more’s the pity.
The Swedish writer has already notched up a lot of kudos for her two other bestsellers, The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules and The Little Old Lady Who Struck Lucky Again.
A former journalist, who struck lucky herself when she turned her pen to writing fiction, her books have been translated into 30 languages and have sold more than two million copies worldwide. Reading her latest it’s easy to understand why, as she really treats the reader to delicious helpings of hilarity, poignancy and wackiness.
It all centres on a motley crew of octogenarians and septuagenarians who team up. And er no, not to play bridge or bowls, but to play elderly Robin Hoods by stealing from the rich to help out the less fortunate oldies.
The League of Pensioners are hot on the Swedish police’s most wanted list and, even when their latest plans go slightly awry, the blue-rinsed rebels seem to get away with it, or do they? It’s hard to stop yourself from giggling when one of the absent-minded crew gets things a little mixed up and causes resulting mayhem.
