100-year old gets wishes from the queen

Iris Winstanley aged 20

Iris Winstanley celebrated her 100th birthday on Thursday September 13 with a party organised by her daughter,
Sylvia Williams, and a royal tribute from Queen Elizabeth

Eight members of her family came from Edinburgh, London and Dorset for the occasion.

In June 1948, Iris came from Manchester, England, with her husband, Jimmy, and three young daughters and they settled in Plumstead. They had many happy years there.

Iris worked at Wynberg library for 14 years. Reading is her favourite pastime and she is still an avid reader today.

In 1977 her husband died and she lived alone until 1994 when she moved into Musgrave Park retirement village in Diep

In 2016, when she was 98, she joined her daughter Sylvia and her son-in-law Alfie Williams, in Glencairn.

Iris has three daughters, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
