The Sunflower Fund, which campaigns for people to register as bone marrow donors and help save the lives of thousands of South Africans with chronic blood conditions, such as leukaemia, is revamping National Bandana Day, its annual awareness and fund-raising drive.
Along with the new tagline, “Hope begins with you,” the organisation has given the bandana campaign a facelift. The new initiative, “Sunflower Day”, will be held on the third Friday of September annually (September 16 this year). It will be the highlight of a campaign running from Sunday August 7 to the end of September. Pick * Pay remains the key sponsor.
The organisation’s iconic bandana has also been changed. Earlier this month, the Sunflower Fund unveiled its new commemorative product, known as the Tube of Hope – Tope, a revitalised version of the bandana.
Sunflower Fund CEO Alana James said in a statement that the Tope represented a “renewed enthusiasm and excitement for our mission of increasing the number of stem cell donors” on the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).
The Tope, available in sizes for both children (R20) and adults (R25), can be worn as a headband, mask, scarf, cap or arm-band and will be sold in six colours at Pick * Pay stores nationwide, as well as Round Table and several other retailers, including online store, Zando, from next month.
