You can play Santa for seniors by sharing gifts and giving back to the elderly over Christmas.
Senior Santa Shoebox aims to spread joy over the holiday season, in this case to the elderly.
A largely forgotten sector of the community, thousands of seniors are left ignored and abandoned in homes, with little to no social contact – a situation that can often result in abuse and neglect. The Senior Santa Shoebox aims to redress this imbalance and to show the elderly that they continue to be worthy and valued.
Blue Route Mall will be packaging and delivering 300 shoeboxes to the residents of Lotus River Place, Mandoline Place Old Age Home and Ladies Christian Home, and shoppers are being asked to donate food, toiletries and small gifts. These can include juice boxes, packets of biscuits, sweets, crisps, shower gel, face cloths, deodorant, body lotion, toothpaste and brushes, playing cards, lipstick, notebooks, crossword puzzles and scarves.
Donations can be dropped in the donation box near the guest-relations desk on the first floor until Saturday December 10. Visit blueroutemall.co.za, or contact Bronwyn Rabie at BronwynR@redefine.co.za for details.
