Constantia author Gretchen Ryan launched her latest book, Secrets of a Stewardess: Flying the World in the 1980s, at Exclusive Books, Constantia Village, last week Wednesday October 2. Over 80 Constantia residents and neighbours gathered to hear Ms Ryan speak about her memoir which tells the story of her days as an air hostess in the 1980s, travelling through London, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Ilha do Sal and New York. She retold stories of a time when smoking was permitted, passengers wore suits, the cockpit was never locked and the cutlery was made of steel on flights. The store audience was entertained with snippets of in-flight hi-jinks and feet-on-the-ground travel adventures, in an era when people dressed up to fly.
