I agree with Mark Schafer (“Objection to water levy”, Bulletin January 18). Why does the council not borrow the money to fund their projects?
That would be the normal business solution and, in this case, the council’s source for the load is already available, it’s the ratepayers.
The big difference between a load and a ransom is the loan must be repaid, whereas the ransom continues ad infinitum. The council is never going to reduce the levy or tariff and the money will simply be used for everything other than water problems. Compare to petrol levy …
