Cali to raise her paw at dog walk

Cali from Constantia is also the ambassador for the Waboba ball.

An Instagram celebrity dog from Constantia, Cali, will put in an appearance at a dog walk on
the Sea Point Promenade this week-
end.

Cali (@goldengirlcalibear) will be the honoured guest at this year’s Paws on the Promenade – a fund-raiser hosted by the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha.

Founded in 1996, the non-profit treats up to 700 pets a month in Khayelitsha and offers consultations, hospitalisation, surgery, sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance and pet rehoming.

Mdzananda means distemper in Xhosa. The disease afflicts many animals in Khayelitsha.

Cali has been invited to cut the ribbon to open the walk, which is expected to draw 300 dogs.

Cali and her owner, Lorien Willocks, will lead the 5km walk to raise funds.

The Golden Retriever has an Instagram following of 18 000. She is also the official Waboba ball ambassador. The Waboba ball is a Swedish outdoor toy that bounces on water and floats.

“I started the account to bring joy to people’s lives. Her carefree nature puts smiles on faces as they watch her having fun and going on adventures,” says Ms Willocks.

Cali has raised funds to sterilise pets and has gathered blankets, food and kennels for pets in need. The walk is on Sunday March 15 starts at 9am at the Mouille Point lighthouse and stretches to the Sea Point swimming pool and back. Tickets are R50 a person, R50 a dog and R25 for children under 12. Tickets are available from www.qkt.io/pawsonprom2020 or on the day from 8am to 9am. Walkers
are encouraged to dress up like their favourite animal or to wear something orange.
