Celebrating women in wine

The Norval Foundation in Steenberg celebrated women in wine at the weekend by hosting a wine tasting featuring female winemakers and employees from several Western Cape wine estates.

MCC (Methode Cap Classique) winemaker Andiswa Mapheleba has been at Boschendal Wine Estate for three months and is enjoying working on her fifth harvest.
Melissa Basson is head of tasting at Boschkloof Wines in Polkadraai Road, Stellenbosch.
Edie Stellenboom, and Pat Ohlson, wine consultants at Spier in Stellenbosch, believe that women winemakers – such as Heidi Dietstein who produces the wine estate’s Brut Rose and two of its red wines – are making progress in the industry.
