Horace and Daphne Jenkings celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday January 14 with the family at Klein Joostenberg, near Paarl.
The couple were married in the Metropolitan Methodist Church in Cape Town on Saturday January 12, 1957.
Horace was born in Port Nolloth, Namaqaland in 1933 and Daphne, in Cape Town, in 1931. Daphne’s best friend was Horace’s sister and they started dating in their early 20s.
In the early 1960s, they bought a house in Plumstead where they raised their four children.
Horace worked for Telkom and Daphne was initially a stay-at-home mother but when the children were in their teenage years, she worked for the Cape Town City Mission.
After living in their Plumstead home for almost 50 years, they sold their house in 2009 and moved to Riverside Place in Diep River.
Each of their children married and had two children each which means that they have eight grandchildren – seven granddaughters and one grandson.
On December 31, last year there was some exciting news as Daphne and Horace became great grandparents for the first time when their eldest grand-daughter
gave birth to a son. They were able to meet their first great-grandchildonNewYear’s
Day.
