A Diep River school scooped top honours at the Cape Town Eisteddfod for English creative writing, competing against some of the top schools in the province.
Renaissance College won several awards in the category and pupil Liam Frieslich, 16, won the overall award, The Eisteddfod Trophy, for the highest marks across all genres.
“The standards for the competition were high,” said the school’s founder Val Haysom. “I am extremely proud of what the students have achieved and delighted that they are proud of themselves.”
The school submitted 14 pieces from 10 pupils who all received certificates for high achievement.
Mrs Haysom established Renaissance College in 2012 to help high school pupils with learning difficulties.
