The public can drop blankets, clothing, shoes, tinned food, toiletries and other donations for the homeless at their local library as part of the City of Cape Town’s Give Dignity campaign launched last year.
Mayoral committee member for community services and health, Dr Zahid Badroodien, said giving to the homeless on the streets only encouraged them to stay there and undermined the City’s efforts to break the “cycle of homelessness”
He added: “We need residents to help us break this cycle and to instead donate much needed essentials. We urge the public to continue to make donations of cash, clothing or food to
registered organisations or at designated locations in our libraries.”
