Hazel Albertus, Emmanuel Educare, Westlake
Thanks to the generous support of a number of benefactors, we have not had to send out a letter of appeal for some
time.
Monetary donations received from our supporters assisted us in maintaining a bursary fund whereby we provided financial support, either partially or in full, to almost 35 young pupils during 2017.
At the time of writing, we have used more than R85 000 from the bursary fund this year, and that means that we are seriously challenged to
continue providing this level of support during 2018.
School fees at the pre-school were R450 per month during 2017, and the governing body have approved an increase to R500 per month in 2018.
The increase is necessary to meet our ever increasing running costs and to provide reasonable salaries to our hard-working staff, all of whom will again be going without an annual bonus in December this year.
Naturally, a number of members of the com-munity are hard-pressed to pay fees, and R500 a month is a particular challenge for many.
In addition, we have quite a number of parents who fall so far behind with their fee payments that we
spend considerable time trying to obtain payment.
The purpose of this letter is therefore to appeal to our friends and supporters to consider the enormous benefit that good education provides, to thank those who have contributed in the
past in providing financial assistance, and to appeal to you all to consider providing further financial support if you are able to do so.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you require further details of our financial position and budget. Our audited financial statements are available on our website (www.wuct.org.za), and our budget for 2018 is available on request.
The budget is prepared in October and must undergo scrutiny and approval by the governing body and Westlake United Church Trust (WUCT) treasurer before being signed off.
Emmanuel Educare currently provides pre-school education for 180 young pupils aged from 3 to 6 years old. Thereafter, most of our children progress to the Westlake Primary School situated
nearby.
Reports of their academic progress have generally been encouraging, and we are proud to provide excellent facilities, nutritious meals, and good education to
those entrusted to our care.
