Wynberg Boys’ Junior School staged a production of the 1978 musical Grease at the weekend.
The Wynberg Girls’ Junior School pupils joined the boys on stage. The girls wore in bobby socks and polka-dot gathered skirts. They sang and danced with the boys who sported leather jackets and had their hair slicked back.
Songs included Blue Moon, Grease Lightning, Summer Nights and You’re the One That I Want – hits made famous by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta.
Musical director Jody Engelbrecht inherited the production when he joined the school earlier this year. He said it was ambitious for children had aged 6 to 12, but they had risen to the challenge and had fun while doing it.
