About 100 people gathered at Groot Constantia on Heritage Day to celebrate and preserve the history of those who were forcibly removed from Constantia under apartheid’s Group Areas Act. The Constantia Heritage and Education Project ‘s (CHEP) annual Heritage Day event provides educational heritage tours and stories by former residents to build and unite communities. This year, CHEP partnered with Iziko museums and Groot Constantia. Artists, storytellers, poets and musicians such as Soli Philander, Ernestine Deane, Diana Ferrus and Jitsvinger performed, as well as the St Cyprian’s Marching Band.
