Brett Herron, mayoral committee member for transport and urban development, City of Cape Town.
This is in response to the story “Upset over proposed housing development”, Bulletin February 8.
Residents are annoyed that the deadline for objection to a proposed housing development along the railway line in Diep River was over the festive season.
The public participation process started on November 28 last year and ended on February 1 this year, thus allowing the public and interested and affected parties two months for comments.
The publication date of November 28 was the first Friday (for press publication) after the advert had been compiled by the department.
Due to the festive season, this application was open for comment for significantly longer than the statutory minimum period of 30 days. The month of January is not considered to be part of the festive season. The closing date for objections was Thursday February 1 and 133 objections have been received.
The application documentation for rezoning of erven 79204 and 79208 is too large to send via email. The application is, however, available for viewing at the City’s development management office in Plumstead.
