An interim headmaster has been appointed at Springfield Dominican Catholic Independent Convent School in Wynberg, after the resignation of Barbara Houghton who spent eight years at the helm.
Chair of Springfield’s Board of Governors, Judith February, says they have appointed Keith Richardson as interim head of their school for a year.
“This provides us with sufficient time for a thorough search process for a new head of school,” she says.
“We are delighted and very fortunate to have Keith join us for 2019.
“He is an experienced headmaster and an educator of the highest calibre. We know too that Ms Houghton will be missed by the girls and staff alike.
“She has made an important contribution to our school over the past eight years,” says Ms February.
She adds that they will appoint someone who is able to maintain the excellence and holistic Dominican education for which Springfield has been known.
Ms February says Springfield is a private school founded in 1871 by the Cabra Dominican Sisters. Springfield enrols pupils from nursery school to Grade 12.
Mr Richardson, who retired from teaching at Wynberg Boys’ High School in 2015, says he was asked a few weeks ago if he would stand in as principal for Ms Houghton.
