Illustrator and author from Constantia, Judy Maré, has collaborated with Marina Rust-Evans to create a children’s book called Moo and Me, based on the true life adventures of a rescued bull.
Moo and Me is a true story about a rescued bull’s extraordinary life, and the unique bond and connection formed between him, and his caretaker, Ms Rust-Evans.
Ms Rust-Evans lives on a farm in Elgin with her family. She rescued MooMoo when he was only two days’ old.
The story is told from Ms Rust-Evans’s perspective.
Ms Rust-Evans said that she saw 17 illustrators before choosing Ms Maré to illustrate the book.
She said that she had a feeling that they were meant to work together and they shared a special bond.
As they got to know each other better, it turned out that Ms Rust-Evans’s great-grandmother grew up in the house that Ms Maré has lived in for more than 20 years.
The book has an eight-page fact section with information about farming methods and nutrition.
It has 18 pages of activities, including growing your own food, baking and colouring in and more.
The book is available at selected Exclusive Books stores, Bargain Books and Ms Mare’s website www.chameleonbooks.co.za for less than R120.
