A charity that encourages people to make blankets for the needy, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, is displaying the blankets it collects at regional shows under the theme, “Local Blankets is Lekka“.
The roadshow kicked off at the Hellenic Club in Mouille Point on Saturday April 22 and will head to Mossel Bay on Saturday May 13 and from there to other parts of the country.
KnitWits clubs, knitting groups from around the country that are contributing to the drive, have been incorporating features of their communities into their blankets, and the woollen wonders made by the Cape Town KnitWits feature Table Mountain, the Kaapse Klopse, Bo-Kaap, the Castle of Good Hope, Robben Island, the Cape floral kingdom, Boulders Beach, and more of what makes the region unique.
