Last night of the proms

■ The theme for this year’s Last Night of the Proms is Sound and Light Spectacular. The classical music concert, hosted by the Rotary Club of Wynberg, takes place on Saturday September 29, at 8pm, and Sunday September 30, at 5pm, at the Cape Town City Hall. Richard Cock, pictured, will conduct the Cape Town Proms Orchestra, which will be backed by mass choirs and performing the works of Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Bernstein and Hugh Masekela. Also on stage this year will be soprano Celilia Rangwanasha, a Cape Town Opera studio member. After the traditional “street party” at interval, the Cape Town Highlanders will pipe the audience back to their seats for the second, more interactive part of the programme.
