Lavender Hill man arrested for teen rape

A 52-year-old Lavender Hill man has been arrested for raping a teenage girl who was convinced to pose topless and share the photos on social media.

City of Cape Town law enforcement spokesperson, Inspector Wayne Dyason, said the man, Rosario Adams, had posed as a younger man and had groomed his victim on social media. He then used the photographs to blackmail her. The girl, who cannot be named, met the man face-to-face at the Retreat station area last week. She had believed he was much younger.

“When she arrived and discovered his age and that he had deceived her, she wanted to leave but he threatened to expose the pictures on social media and shame her. He then forced himself on her‚” said Inspector Dyason.
“He promised to delete the pictures and the girl, thinking the nightmare was over, returned home. He called her again and made the same threats if she did not meet him at the same place.”

The teen alerted law enforcement officers who, prior to the meeting, hid in the surrounding bush and waited for the suspect to arrive.

“When he arrived and the victim identified him, he was arrested by the officers. The case is currently being investigated by SAPS and the man is due to appear in court on Monday,” said Inspector Dyason.

SAPS corporate communication officer, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, said a rape case has been opened for investigation and the man was arrested on Thursday March 22. Once he has been charged, he will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court.
