I was so pleased to read about the wonderful, pioneering work of Elzanne Singels and Alex Lansdowne on the Wynberg Park rehabilitation (“Restore species at park”, Bulletin, March 13).
I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if people’s verges became little corridors or veins of fynbos conservation and biodiversity throughout Cape Town instead of this horrible, sterile tide of gravel and paving we see seeping into the suburbs. The monoculture of alien grass is bad enough, now even that makes way for a deathly desert creep.
Imagine the potential if instead we just let the fynbos return.
