On Sunday January 13 at 5.50pm Diep River police arrested a man, 32, for housebreaking and theft in Meadowridge.
Diep River police spokesperson, Sergeant Zak Marais, said no shots were fired and no injuries reported. “We would like to thank all partnerships in the fight against crime,” he said.
Jade Hanning, Cape Town South district manager at Fidelity ADT said they deployed an armed response officer to investigate a report that three suspects had just stolen items from a home in Newton Drive. On arrival the officer heard that the three men were seen jumping over a back wall to escape.
The homeowner was able to provide a very detailed description of the suspects, which helped armed response officers in locating a suspect who matched that description, where he was walking along Main Road in Diep River.
“The suspect was transported to the local police station for questioning. A picture was sent to the homeowner in Meadowridge, who positively identified the suspect,” said Mr Hanning.
The items allegedly stolen during the robbery were later located on a neighbour’s property, where it was apparently discarded by the three alleged burglars.
“The description we were given proved very valuable in the apprehension of the suspect. If you report any suspicious activity to police or your armed response company, please try to be as specific as possible,” said Mr Hanning.
