Man caught carrying illegal firearm

A .38 special revolver and three rounds of ammunition were confiscated during a roadblock.
A man was arrested after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm in Kirstenhof this morning.

Metro police officers, who were manning a lockdown in the area, pulled over a bakkie with four occupants inside.

While the officers were still talking to the driver, one of his passengers on the back of the bakkie, jumped out and ran.

The officers gave chase and apprehended him. He was searched and found in possession of a .38 special revolver and three rounds of ammunition.

Metro police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, said: “The suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was also charged with contravening the Disaster Management Act.”

The man was detained at Kirstenhof police station.
