Several organisations and individuals took part in the annual Mandela Day on Thursday July 18. Some cooked for children and the elderly while others donated clothes to the less fortunate.

Chefs at Constantias La Colombe restaurant served umngqusho on Mandela Day to children at Ikhaya le Themba in Imizamo Yethu, which feeds 92 vulnerable and orphaned children daily.

Seventy litres of soup were donated to children in Westlake on Mandela Day. Amazing Grace Upliftment Centre together with Maggies Amazing Kitchen hosted two soup kitchens that afternoon. They thanked their donors, Glen Avon Lodge, Sunflower Catering, Barons Tokai, BrandWRX, Prescient, and Megan Miller who donated 10 bags of bread.

Pancakes, an adventurous horse from the childrens book series - A Little Horse Called Pancakes visited the residents of Constantia Place Retirement Home on Mandela Day. Pancakes was accompanied by his two Toy Pom friends, Blueberry and Big Star, and his human team, Candice Noakes-Dobson, Lauren Vermaak and Kelly Burke. Pancakes visit was thoroughly enjoyed by the residents who asked that he return to the home regularly as an honoured guest.
