The Paws on the Promenade – a dog-walk fund-raiser for the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, has been postponed.
The dog walk had been scheduled for this Sunday, October 29.
Mdzananda’s fund-raising and communications executive, Marcelle du Plessis, said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the postponement of our Paws on the Promenade dog walk fund-raiser due to a technical hitch with the venue.”
She added that the event, which had been planned at the Mouille Point Lighthouse, would be moved to March next year and more details would be forthcoming.
“While this is quite sad news, we are keeping high spirits and are already planning to bring this experience back to you in the new year,” she added, thanking everyone who had supported the event.
The previously annual event had been delayed before, for two years, due to Covid-19.
In a release, earlier this year, Ms Du Plessis said the clinic had planned to bring it back this year due to “pawpular demand”.
The event is the NPO’s biggest fund-raiser. The clinic serves 1 500 animals a month through consultations, hospitalisation, general and orthopaedic surgeries, continuous sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance and a homeless pet shelter.
“Our budget keeps growing year on year, due to the demand for our services. It is essential for us to diversify our fundraising,” said Ms du Plessis.
