Police have arrested a 29-year-old Lavender Hill man after a woman was mugged in Bergvliet on Tuesday.
The man was arrested in Princess Road in the early evening after two men robbed the woman who was on her way home.
Police say the man was carrying a 9mm pistol with eight rounds and a “replica pellet gun”.
The suspect’s alleged accomplice is still at large.
The mugging victim did not want to open a case, according to Kirstenhof police spokeswoman Sergeant Deidre Solomon, but the suspect was detained on charges relating to the illegal possession of a firearm.
The police are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of the second suspect contact Sergeant Cheslin Brink at Kirstenhof detective at 021 702 8900.
