Margaretha van der Meijden, Plumstead
On the corner of Meyer and 27 Melville, Plumstead, an electrical pole is so badly rusted (pictured), it can cause a life-threatening accident – and clearly the City does not care.
On Monday June 18, I sent a photo together with a service request to The City, which issued reference number 9105 3906 04.
When no action was taken, I phoned the City on Thursday July 5 and was assured that the matter would receive urgent attention. I was issued with a new reference number: 101 370 1917.
When, after 10 days, the only difference to the pole was possibly its angle, I posted a photo of the pole on Facebook.
Thania Wilson Harris, chairwoman of the Plumstead Neighbourhood Watch, saw my post and immediately contacted the City and the ward councillor.
For her trouble, she was issued with reference number 101 374 0658. That was three weeks ago.
Please give this matter exposure, before someone gets hurt.
* Xanthea Limberg, Mayco member for informal settlements, water and waste services and energy, responds: The pole has been assessed and temporarily secured. It has been scheduled to be replaced on Tuesday August 21. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused by the delay in response and thanks the residents for their proactive vigilance.
