A Plumstead man has written a self-help book.
I Got It, written by Bradley van Reenen, the founder of the non-profit organisation, I Am Passion, was launched at the Palms in Woodstock on Tuesday March 10. More than 60 people were at the launch, most of them beneficiaries of IAP’s work in the community.
Mr Van Reenen, 34, says he wrote the book to motivate people.
“Success is in them, the answer to them creating their life is in them, the answer to them building their vision is in them.”
It took him about 50 days to write the 92-page self-help guide, he said.
IAP co-founder Johnlyn van Reenen said they had launched a fund-raising drive to coincide with the book launch, and ABSA was supporting the organisation’s Youth Employment Service (YES) programme.
“Because of that kind of injection, it brings in funding for our interns, we have been able to service a greater area and even our projects,” she said.
Proceeds from the book will support IAP projects.
The organisation works with school children in Mitchell’s Plain, Retreat, Grassy Park, Steenberg and Hout Bay as well as unemployed youth. “In the past 18 months, we have reached over 3 000 youth between the ages of 14 and 35 through our Youth Cafe in Mitchell’s Plain. We incubate them for eight weeks in our leadership mastery (programme),” she said.
The young people learn skills, such as graphic design, coding, hospitality, to prepare them for the workplace.
Some who have had the coaching have gone on to start small fashion businesses, mobile food trucks and events management organisations.
Nicole Golding, from Bergvliet, recently started a small events business with her three friends, Toni Erasmus, Meche van der Vent and Megan Press.
“IAP gave me that platform to learn and grow and master my skills. I learnt mentorship skills, and they gave me the confidence to be the woman I am today.”
Radio personality Carl Wastie was the MC at the book launch where more than 20 books were sold and a painting by Bonyani Bonga, auctioned for R3 000. Contact House of Basileia at 081 728 8929 if you’re interested in buying the book.
