Taxis provide valuable service

Saleh Abrahams, Constantia

I travel up and down Southern Cross Drive every day and see the trouble on that road (“Danger drive”, Bulletin July 21).

The problem is that the city has put up more and more barricades to stop taxis from pulling off to collect and transport workers. Constantia residents are trying to prevent taxis from stopping in Southern Cross Drive at all.

Workers who add valuable service to our community now have to wait in the road to get their transport, and taxis are being forced to stop in the road as they can no longer pull off.

This degrades the process for both commuter and service provider. The taxis are not the enemy, as they provide a very valuable service, and we should be empowering them.

Council and the City of Cape Town need to take down the barricades and build formal areas for the taxis to stop along this road.
