Abundant Life celebrated its 10th anniversary by officially opening its dedicated home in Bayview and Lindley roads, a stone’s throw from Victoria Hospital. Patients, doctors, nurses, Friends of Victoria Hospital and volunteers filled the rooms of what was once a derelict house. Since September last year, when Victoria Hospital CEO, Dr Melvin Moodley, decided to use the abandoned house, many different hands have renovated the building, which has already hosted many patients and families whose lives have changed as a result of Abundant Life’s palliative care programme. Senior consultant at Victoria Hospital, Dr Clinton Cupido, said the Abundant Life team have also provided training sessions for nurses and doctors from near and far, including Gansbaai and Vredenburg. Later this year they plan to roll out the programme at Mitchell’s Plain and Helderberg hospitals. For more information, call 021 799 1161 or visit www.friendsofvictoriahospital.org
