Diep River residents gave food hampers and a thank-you card to their local refuse collectors to show their appreciation for the job they are doing during the lockdown. The residents from Mafeking, Auriga and Princess roads gave hampers of tinned food, cereal, milk, sugar, soup, pasta and beans to the municipal rubbish collectors. Pieter Marais, one of the residents, said they wanted to show their appreciation and support to the collectors during these troubled times. On May 21 and 22, refuse collection for Constantia, Diep River, Retreat, Tokai and Westlake were suspended after a staff member at the Schaapskraal depot tested positive for Covid-19. Mr Marais said the community was very grateful for the risk the rubbish collectors took daily. Â
