Diep River police responded to a house robbery call at 4.05am this morning, Friday October 19, at Evermonde Road, Plumstead. Police spokesperson Constable Zak Marais said the residents woke to find three men brandishing knives standing next to their bed. They tied up the couple and then ransacked the house collecting various items before fleeing on foot.
“After receiving numerous calls from neighbouring residents who saw the thieves trespassing on their properties we sent out an all-point-bulletin (APB). Police, reservists, neighbourhood watches, security service providers and neighbouring police stations assisted in cordoning off the area,” said Constable Marais.
This led to the two men being arrested after shots were fired. One man, 35, was found hiding in a nearby property in Dragoon Road, Plumstead and a knife was recovered. The second man, 32, was arrested after he was found hiding under a pool cover of a property in Milford Road, Plumstead. The stolen items were recovered and police forensic experts were called to process the scene. Trauma counselling offered to the complainant and family. No injuries were reported.
