More than 150 officials and volunteers were involved in a cluster crime prevention operation held on Saturday July 15, from 7pm to 2am, between Rondebosch and Kirstenhof.
A total of 14 police staff, 15 traffic officials, 40 law enforcement officers, 64 neighbourhood watch patrollers and 18 security company staff were involved.
Diep River police spokesperson, Sergeant Amanda Gordon, said among their successes were arrests for the possession of drugs in Mowbray and Diep River.
They also arrested a man who was in possession of a Taurus 9mm with eight live rounds, but could not produce a valid firearm license.
Other successes included numerous traffic arrests and 13 warnings being issued.
They conducted 187 MaxID checks – a system used to verify if a person has an outstanding warrant of arrest – resulting in the arrest of three wanted people who were subsequently detained at Diep River police station. One had been charged with stock theft, another for the possession of stolen goods, and the third, with theft.
Sergeant Gordon said the operation had been a great success. “The visibility of the members was a deterrent for would-be criminals to commit a crime.
“We wish to thank all members, reservists and external partners for their contribution and dedication in the fight against crime,” she said.
