A woman’s body was discovered among the debris of a blaze on the M3 freeway.
According to Diep River police, the fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday October 29.
The blaze, which was near the Constantia off-ramp, in the southerly direction, appears to have been started by a homeless person as a cooking fire, Warrant Officer Keith Chandler said.
“When police arrived on the scene the blaze was fierce,” he said.
Firefighters contained the blaze and police noticed what appeared to be the burnt remains of a body. Forensics later confirmed that it was a woman’s body.

Two men were arrested in Plumstead during the early hours of Monday morning for drug possession and other crimes, said Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith.
Law Enforcement officers were patrolling on Victoria Road, at 3am on Monday October 31 and spotted a black scooter with no lights or registration plate, he said.
“The officers asked for the driver’s licence, which the driver did not have, and then asked the driver and his passenger to put their hands on their vehicle for a search,” Mr Smith said.
“The suspects became restless, and the driver, ran away. One officer gave chase and another stayed behind to watch the passenger, who also subsequently fled on the scooter.”
Mr Smith said the driver was quickly caught but the scooter was pursued along Victoria Road towards Main Road. The man reached for a weapon, which police later discovered to be fake.
Mr Smith said: “The chase continued into Athlone until the suspect eventually lost control of his vehicle near Pine Hill Road and was apprehended.”
The men were arrested and charged with drug dealing, reckless and negligent driving, possession of illegal narcotics for 52 packets of tik, possession of a replica firearm, and failing to obey the instructions of a police officer, Mr Smith said.
Wynberg library was broken into on Monday October 24.
Colonel Rufie Nel of Wynberg police told residents at the Wynberg Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association annual general meeting that a man and a woman had been arrested for the break-in. He said the crime had been opportunistic.
