A 90-year-old man was admitted to hospital and treated for several fractured ribs, cuts and bruises after he was beaten in his home on Tuesday September 20.
ADT Security said a group of men rang the man’s doorbell in Tenant Road, Wynberg, to ask for directions, and when he opened the door, they forced their way inside.
“In the process of ransacking the house, the suspects severely injured the homeowner before fleeing with a large number of household items,” said ADT Security’s regional community development manager, Martin Ten Brink.
“Residents must never allow anyone onto their property,” Mr Ten Brink urged. “If you are in any doubt, refuse people entry or use your alarm system’s panic button.”
Mr Ten Brink advised residents to test their alarms regularly. There had been an increase in home robberies in Wynberg, especially in the Tenant Road area, he said.
Wynberg police spokesman Captain Ntombi Nqunqeka said police were investigating. “No arrests have made so far,” she said. “Residents are urged to be more vigilant, especially to
these unexpected doorbell ringers. Rather activate the panic buttons, inform the police or
