Christopher Siljeur, Westcott Primary School music teacher
Westcott Primary School will be showcasing their art and music achievements for the year on Thursday November 28, at 6pm, at our premises.
We are extremely proud of our musical growth this year. We have established a choir of 54 pupils who performed for the first time at the Artscape Arts Festival in August.
Each grade from 1-6 has is learning the recorder. It has been a daunting task, going from class to class teaching music theory and implementing theory into practice to cultivate a love for music.
At the concert, 400-plus pupils will perform as a mass ensemble with the Masikhule Community Orchestra.
Setting the tone for next year, we are planning to grow to bigger and better things and expand the vision of every child through music. As many pupils as possible will receive one-on-one instrumental music tuition with the aim of establishing an orchestra or wind band at our school.
We will continue with the aid of the Trinity Guildhall syllabus, teaching every child formal music theory to equip them with musical knowledge should they decide to take it further.
