Kieran Bowers, 12, of the Primrose Hub scored 202 not out off just 62 balls in the first round of the Cape Town Premier League Cricket Tournament last weekend.
Opening the batting with Abdullah Adams, the pair put on an opening partnership of 301 runs.
In overcast conditions Bowers smashed 11 sixes and 25 fours to reach his dynamic century in just 28 balls.
He raced on to reach 150 off just 46 balls, and continued the onslaught to reach his maiden double hundred.
Bowers is also a batting wicket keeper like AB De Villiers who currently holds the record for the fastest ODI hundred off 31 balls.
His formidable innings contributed to a record total of 352/1 for the opposition to chase.
Bowers attends St Joseph Marist Brothers and was identified in the net sessions at the school by the Primrose Hub coaches.
The Hub head coach, Shahied Adonis, commented, “Bowers is the first player to score a T20 double ton in Cricket South Africa hub history.
Primrose Hub’s fastest century was previously held by Matteo Herman, 14, of Bonteheuwel, who scored 100 off 31 balls earlier in the season, making a second century off 39 balls last week.”
In 2017 Primrose Hub was crowned Feedem T20, double Innings and Basil D’oliveira champions.
Meanwhile, in exciting back to back T20 matches in the Cape Town Premier League T20 Tournament played on Thursday, the first match of the day saw North vs South, when Primrose Hub came up against Bellville Thunder.
On a blistering cold morning Primrose Hub won the toss and chose to bat setting a target of 162.
Bellville replied with 112 in 20 overs. The Hub boys beat Bellville by 50 runs.
The Master Blaster Batsman award went to the Hub Captain Fahad Khan who scored 90 not out off 55 balls, and Top Bowler award went to Uzayr Fakier with figures of 3/21 in 4 overs.
In the second match of the day, Primrose Hub beat Somerset West Cricket Club Eagles. The Eagles won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 131/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Callum Sayers, with a devastating opening spell, claimed 4 wickets for only 3 runs including a double wicket maiden in the first over of the match, and won the Top Bowler award.
Primrose Hub replied with 133 for 4 in the 14th over, securing a bonus point victory to stretch their lead to 10 points. Abdullah Adams scored 54 not out off 28 balls, claiming the Master Blaster Batsman award.
The next rounds of the CPL will be played on Sunday August 19, at Durbanville Cricket Club.
