Anne Philip, Hermanus
It will be 200 years since Dr John Philip arrived in Table Bay on 26 February 1819 with his wife, Jane, and their two sons, William Enowy and John Ross.
He was one of the first missionaries to visit South Africa and was sent here by the London Missionary Society (LMS) in Scotland. He was to become the director and superintendent of the LMS based in the Cape.
I am organising a get-together of his descendants to take the form of a luncheon at an Overberg winery on Sunday March 3, from 11am.
If you, as a present day member of the Philip family, wish to join in and meet fellow descendants of this man, contact me, Anne Philip, by WhatsApp at 082 399 3925 or email janda@hermanus.co.za for further details of the function, and indicate how you are related to this missionary.
The cut-off date for enquiries is Friday February 15, so an early reply is advised.
Photos and other relevant memorabilia of this illustrious missionary and his family will be appreciated.
