The Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team, consisting of representatives from SANParks, CapeNature, and the City of Cape Town, will hold public meetings with communities from baboon-affected areas in June.
According to a statement from the task team, the meetings will elaborate on the plan adopted last year to manage the Cape Peninsula’s baboon population.
At the meetings, the task team will present information on, among other things, the history and movement of the baboon troop specific to the area and the actions to be taken by the three authorities.
The meetings will be held in person from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The venues will be announced closer to the time, but the provisional dates are Monday June 10 for Simon’s Town and Murdock Valley; Tuesday June 11 for Kommetjie; Wednesday June 12 for Scarborough and Misty Cliffs; Thursday June 13 for Constantia south of Constantia Nek, Tokai and Zwaanswyk; Tuesday June 18 for Da Gama, Welcome Glen and Glencairn; Wednesday June 19 for Sunnydale, Capri, Imhoff’s Gift, Heron Park and Ocean View; and Thursday June 20 for Constantia north of Constantia Nek.
The task team encouraged the public to prepare for the meetings by reviewing the management plan and baboon-proof-fencing report, both of which were published last year, and considering possible solutions. Both documents are available on the SANParks, CapeNature and City of Cape Town websites.
