The Woof Project, a national mobile dog adoption site, will be at Constantia Village shopping centre every weekend in October.
Aiming to increase the Western Cape’s dog adoption rate by 50% by 2020, the Woof Project, will be at the shopping centre every weekend from October 5 to November 3.
Having operated for over 112 weekends across the Western Cape and nationally recently, the Woof Project has helped over 1 900 dogs find homes since its inception. The Woof Project is an initiative of Oscars Arc, a Franschhoek-based NPO that facilitates dog adoption.
Joanne Lefson, director of the Woof Project said: “We’re looking for a great home for a shelter dog. “We don’t define the parameters. We look at every adopter differently. The reality is we’re sitting with a 90% euthanasia rate in homes. We believe that a dog in a good home is better than a dog two feet under.”
The people interested in adopting are also required to do a home check that same day that is performed by Oscars Arc. The home check is to check if the adopters home is a safe environment for the dog.
Each of the dogs is microchipped, vaccinated and sterilised by Oscars Arc and the Woof Project also includes a “’Name Your Price Adoption Fee”’, where the adopter chooses how much they would like to adopt the dog for.
On Saturday August 17, the Woof Project set a world record for the most dog adoptions in one day by one agency – at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, when 56 dogs were adopted.
