A Meadowridge couple, Joan and Peter White, both celebrate their 95th birthdays this year.
Joan turned 95 on July 30 and Peter turns 95 on October 7. On November 11 they will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
They first moved into 4 Lister Way in May of 1957. They had three children, Theresa, Stephen and the late Ingrid White, who all started their schooling at Notre Dame Convent in Constantia with Theresa finishing her schooling there and Stephen and Ingrid finishing at the Wynberg schools.
Joan and Peter were involved in the establishment of Meadowridge’s tennis club and the laying of the original cricket pitch.
Peter was also involved in the Meadowridge Ratepayers’ Association, and both Peter and Joan in the Meadowridge brownies, guides, cubs and scouts.
After 47 years they left Meadowridge and took up residence in Forest Glade in Tokai where they lived independently until lockdown.
They are now living with their son, Stephen, and his wife, Jeannette, in Kommetjie.
