The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Friday March 17 and Saturday March 18 next year.
Back after a three-year break due to the Covid-19 lockdowns, the festival will continue its 21st anniversary celebrations that were postponed in 2020.
Judith Sephuma, South Africa’s queen of Afro-jazz, is thrilled to be returning to Cape Town to entertain festival goers.

There has been a definite gap in the music festival calendar without the CT Jazz Fest these past couple of years, so I am delighted it is back, and it promises to be amazing – as usual. The stages for 2023 are Rosies, which jazz purists will appreciate for the audio quality of the acoustics; Kippies, which retains its position in the main hall on the ground floor; and the open-air Downtown stage (formerly Manenberg).
Music impresario Billy Domingo, the festival director for many years, has retired from espAfrika, organisers of CTIJF. In tribute, the programming of the 2023 event will pay homage to Billy’s love of promoting African artists.
In keeping with the Afri-Futurism theme for the 21st anniversary, the CTIJF will launch a new audience engagement platform (AEP) and Festino experience app.
The app, like the balance of the line-up, will go live later this year, but will be a content rich platform from which to keep up to date with what’s happening, navigate the festival on the day, set reminders and event planners, as well as enter competitions and spot prizes.
