A benefit concert at the Steenberg Wine Estate, on Sunday November 20, has raised R117 600 for the Beach Hut Trust to repair and maintain Muizenberg’s beach huts.
The Beach Hut Trust started in 2020 as a collaboration between residents, businesses and City representatives to look after the iconic huts in Muizenberg and surrounds.
Craig Hinds and Gideon Botes from Watershed performed at the sold-out concert at the wine estate.
Pippa Hudson from CapeTalk opened the event and described why South Africans love the beach huts: “Much like the Eiffel Tower is to Paris or the Statue of Liberty is to New York, the beach huts are Cape Town’s most iconic structures,“ she said.
Save Our Beach Huts campaign founder Angela Gorman said she was inspired by the latest fund-raising initiative.
“It reminds me of the famous words by Brian Solis: ‘Community is much more than belonging to something; it is about doing something together that makes belonging matter.’”
