Usher Henn lives in Plumstead and attends Simon van der Stel Primary School in Wynberg.
Early in Usher’s school rugby career, his principal and coaches recognised his talent. Last year he was nominated for Western Province trials and after numerous eliminations he was chosen for the WP under-12 team and went on to represent Western Province in various games and tournaments.
This year the same happened and he was included in WP under-13 team. He has already represented Western Province at an inter-provincial tournament in Worcester and will be representing Western Province on Friday and Saturday June 15 and 16 in the under-13 Inter-Provincial Southern Rugby Tournament in Oudtshoorn.
All this has to be balanced with the challenges of studying and writing exams and the many rugby practices in the afternoons in Bellville. But Usher says representing the province and getting training from coaching staff makes it all worthwhile.
As for the future, Usher says he would like to continue playing for WP and who knows, maybe one day Stormers or even the Springboks.
Usher is the deputy head boy at his school and sets an example to his fellow pupils. “I believe that you can achieve your goals in life if you stay focused, disciplined and determined,” says Usher.
During his spare time Usher is an avid online gamer but also likes athletics and swimming.
His friends admire him for what he has achieved and they see that through hard work and determination it is possible to achieve goals in life.
