Leading winemakers, wine lovers and buyers watched records tumble at the 32nd Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction at Spier, in the Stellenbosch Winelands. Held on Saturday October 1, total sales at this annual showcase of South African wines amounted to more than R13.8 million with new record wine prices for red, white, Methode Cap Classique and Port. The auction and related events enable the Cape Winemakers Guild and its members to plough back by raising funds in support of transformation in the wine industry and the development of talented young winemakers and viticulturists. Over R1.95 million has been raised so far this year in aid of the Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Development Trust including R374 800 from charity items sold at the auction.
