False Bay FRC’s run in the Western Province Club Rugby Sevens competition ended with the side taking home the shield section in the Bellville at the weekend. Bay defeated Kuils River 12 – 5 in the final. They would have expected to have a better showing in the tournament and possibly finish with the cup medal but a win in the shield final is a worthy consolation prize. In the last day of the competition, they also defeated Young Peoples 14-7 and Union-Milnerton 17-10 in the shield semi-final and quarter-finals respectively. Their tournament in the main cup was ended by Belhar in the last 16, losing 19-24. During the pool stages, Bay was one of the standout performers, losing only once in their 11 matches. The loss came against eventual cup winners, Tygerberg, who defended their title they won last year. Â
