With the Super Rugby season barely three weeks away, the Stormers will hold a dress-rehearsal in a practice match against False Bay at Constantia on Saturday morning.
The Bay will face the franchise in two 20-minute chukkas before the WP Supersport Challenge Squad continue the test for another 40 minutes. It is a unique event, the coming together of amateur and professional rugby while at the same time giving the public an opportunity to see their heroes in a community environment.
As if the excitement of the match is not enough, spectators will be able to witness 13 Stormers Springboks in a short conditioning session after the main event, which offers fans some insight to the rigors of such sessions.
The entire concept is a coup for the WPRFU as they take the Stormers to the community.
The Stormers are on the back end of a grueling three-week pre-season programme and will be bringing a squad of 28 players in their final dress-rehearsal before next week’s Heroes Challenge at Green Point Stadium.
It is also a highlight event for local rugby supporters as they are given a chance to soak up the energy of match day mechanics, mere meters from the action, courtesy of the intimacy of the venue.
It promises to be an exciting morning of star-studded rugby, bolstered by the presence of the non-playing Springboks on the sidelines.
The interaction with the public continues as a post-match social takes place afterwards.
False Bay coach, Johnno van der Walt said it an exciting opportunity and honour for False Bay to play against the Stormers.
“It will be nice to see where our fitness and conditioning is at after only three weeks of training together.”
Entry on Saturday is free, with parking available in the grounds and surrounding area.
Refreshment stands will be available. Kick off is scheduled for 11am, and early arrival is suggested.
