Ellen Fedele, Plumstead
I am trying to help a management team which was put together to help the miners and their families of more than half a dozen mines in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, who have been left almost destitute due to the departure last year of certain individuals who have been accused of fraud and corruption from South Africa.
One of the organisers mentioned dog, cat and chicken feed as many miners have chickens kept for eggs and dogs and cats kept as pets.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA here in Cape Town has allowed me to utilise their premises as a drop-off point for bags of dog food, sachets and pellets for cats, chicken feed, food bowls, blankets and any other items people feel they wish to donate.
I will have to find some way to get it to them if Cape Town comes out in force to donate, as I am hoping they will, so some begging on my part of big truck companies or SAA to get bulk donations will probably be the order of the day!
If you can assist or would like the details of the management team organising food for the families as well as school shoes, stationery, transport fees for the miners’ children etc please let me know.
