Win tickets to see Irish Rebellion doccie

On Easter Monday April 24 1916, a group of 2 500 Irish men and women, rebelled against British rule in Ireland. This Easter Rebellion was part of the process that led to the unravelling of the British Empire. It inspired freedom movements across the globe, including South Africa.

To mark the centenary of this event, the Irish Ambassador and the Irish South African Association, will have a screening of 1916 The Irish Rebellion at the Baxter Theatre 2.30pm Sun- day April 24 one hundred years, to the day, later.

The film creator, Professor Briona NicDhiarmada of Notre Dame University in America, will be present to introduce the film and take questions.

The documentary film, narrated by Liam Neeson, includes original footage from that time, interviews with participants and families of those executed and evolving responses to the rebellion in Ireland at the time.

Tickets are R70 a person and Jameson whiskey will be served to the sounds of live Irish music, while centennial memento tickets will be issued on the day at the Baxter. Book at Computicket.
